Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has rejected the office used by his predecessor Jack Ranguma, stating that he would not be productive in the office.
The Governor also rejected the furniture and equipment in the office noting that he would not be attracted to class, but service to the people.
Nyong'o has vacated the 9th floor of the Prosperity House that was used by Ranguma and is now renovating the 2nd floor to serve as his office.
Defending his action to relocate the office just two years after Sh25 Million was used in renovating it, the governor stated that he would not sit back and suffer in silence.
"I do not like the ninth floor office. I am more productive on the second floor. Must I suffer in the ninth floor just because a lot of money was used to renovate it?
"My work is more important than the corruption that informed the renovating of the ninth floor office," Nyong'o stated.
Nyong'o dismissed arguments of possible waste of resources through repeated relocation of the Governor's office, emphasizing that his focus was quality service to the people.
"If somebody tells you that Sh100 Million was used to build hell and Sh1 Million used to build heaven, would you go to hell because it is expensive?" Nyong'o posed.
During his swearing in earlier this week, Prof. Nyong'o promised to improve the county’s economy by creating a friendly environment for investments.
He also pledged to work with the county assembly to enact laws that would speed up development and improve residents’ welfare.
Nyong’o explained that he would work to ensure public participation in county governance.
Former Governor Ranguma, who skipped the inauguration, explained that he did not attend the ceremony because the results declared were questionable.
“I cannot endorse an illegitimate election. I neither saw the invitation letter nor was I briefed about the programme.
“You cannot endorse an irregularity ... This is part of the ‘vifaranga vya computer’(leaders whose victory was computer-generated)," he stated.
