Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has declared his position on job security for Nairobi City County cleaners.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Sonko Rescue Team (SRT) Manager Joab Ogolla on Thursday told journalists that the county workers have nothing to worry about.
Mr Ogolla allayed fears that the county workers would lose their jobs following a concerted effort by the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to clean up various parts of the city.
"Let the county workers not feel threatened we are basically giving them enforcement as they are few and overwhelmed by the job," Ogolla stated.
Ogolla took a swipe at the workers, declaring that the SRT youth are passionate about cleanliness "unlike the county staff who are unmotivated, some are old and do the job in a sluggish manner".
Executive in-charge of Environment, Eng Peter Kimori distanced himself from commenting on the issue stating that he was busy taking care of hand-over matters.
Nairobi residents have so far been impressed by the SRT's "Operation Ng'arisha Jiji" initiative, commending the Governor for the clean-up efforts.
The reputation of the Team has led to recruitment scams with one woman having already been arrested for duping members of the public.
