Boni Khalwale in Consultations With Speaker Ken Lusaka and Other Western Leaders

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has revealed that he has been in consultations with several leaders including Jubilee-allied Speaker, Ken Lusaka ahead of the upcoming repeat Presidential election.

Khalwale stated that he was determined to consolidate the Luhya vote and was in talks with various leaders to plot the next move.

The former Kakamega Senator stated on Twitter, “It will help if my community votes 100% as a block at this unprecedented election. So far I've consulted Weta/Speaker Lusaka/Hon Wekesa/etc.”

He noted that he had been in talks with Ford Kenya party leader and NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula, newly-appointed Senate Speaker and one of Jubilee’s founding fathers Noah Wekesa.

As one of NASA’s most vocal supporters in recent times, Khalwale is expected to play a major role in Raila Odinga’s vote-hunting mission in Kakamega and the larger Western region.

He has been previously hailed for his mobilization abilities, something NASA would need considering the high stakes of the fresh poll.

The bullfighter, as he is also referred to, lost to Wycliffe Oparanya in the Kakamega Gubernatorial contest but appeared dissatisfied with the results.

In an earlier tweet, he referred to Oparanya as a ‘computer-generated governor'. It will be interesting to see whether he will file a petition challenging Oparanya’s re-election.

The mention of Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka sparked rumours that he may be about to switch sides and join the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party.

Former Bungoma Governor Lusaka joined Jubilee and spearheaded campaigns for the party in the August 8th elections in Bungoma where Uhuru put in a much-improved performance from 2013.

He lost his Governor’s seat to ODM’s Wycliffe Wangamati but was duly rewarded by Jubilee lawmakers who backed him for the Senate Speaker position.

Lusaka was on Sunday at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Thika accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto and Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
