NASA Principal Faces Hard Time Campaigning for Raila

The newly-installed National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal, Peter Munya, on Sunday had a difficult time campaigning for Opposition Leader Raila Odinga certain regions of Meru County.

Campaigning in Tigania and Igembe regions, Munya together with his allies Peter Kaberia, Mugambi Imanyara and Mike Makarena faced rebellion, after locals chanted anti-NASA slogans.

At KK Market, for instance, Munya was forced to briefly address the crowd since the residents were chanting: "Jubilee! Jubilee!".

The same scenario was replicated in other stops made by the former Governor and his team.

Munya's caravan, however, received a better reception in Igembe Central at Antubetwe Kiongo and Kiengu markets where the residents cheered and welcomed the team.

At Laare Market, an area considered to be Munya's stronghold, the NASA campaign team was also warmly welcomed.

The former Meru Governor joined the Opposition coalition on Monday last week after noting that he was an "unfortunate casualty" of the compromised election whose presidential election results were nullified by the Supreme Court.

He promised to campaign and deliver votes for NASA in the Meru region.

"When the election of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka was being stolen I was also canon fodder in that fight and therefore, I cannot join those who stole my election and be working for them.

"That is why I have decided today, and we have decided with the team and the people of Meru who supported me that we will be on this side of history and to continue fighting for change and transformation of this country," Munya stated.

His defection was, however, dismissed by Jubilee leaders as nonconsequential with Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi explaining that the region was a Jubilee stronghold adding that NASA would not get additional votes in Meru.
