IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati's Senior Advisor Threatens to Sue Daily Nation

A senior advisor to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has threatened to sue the Daily Nation newspaper for publishing a false story about him.

Mr Gekari Muoni has accused the local daily of writing a false story on Monday's, September 25 edition purporting he was fired by Chebukati on grounds that he was behind the mysterious leakage of memos in the commission.

According to Mr Muoni, he was on leave when the documents were leaked from the IEBC chairman's office and he, therefore, had nothing to do with the leakage.

"The said publication was impetuous and unjustified. Our client, an academician, has been exposed to ridicule in his career, professional standing and his public reputation lowered courtesy of your horrendous and unjustified publication." read part of the letter.

"Our instructions are to demand, as we at this moment do, that you retract the publication forthwith/prominently complete with an apology to our client within the next 48 hours to avert an impending litigation," it read.

IEBC has been faced with the leakage of confidential information within its circles.

The first incident exposed a memo Chebukati had written to CEO Ezra Chiloba demanding answers to 12 issues that went wrong during the August polls.

Another memo on proposed disciplinary action against IEBC officials found culpable for bungling the polls also leaked to the public.
