Peter Munya's Makes New Announcement On Campaigning for Jubilee

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has had a change of heart concerning his earlier announcement that he would not campaign alongside current Governor Kiraitu Murungi.

State House has confirmed that Munya and Murungi had a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday where they resolved to set aside their differences and campaign for President Uhuru as a united front.

The Party of National Unity (PNU) leader had recently stated on a local radio station, "If there is a big meeting called by the president I can participate. But I can’t see myself attending a rally organised by Kiraitu because we have unfinished business with my petition against him.”

It is still unclear whether Munya will withdraw a petition he filed challenging Kiraitu's victory in the August 8th election.

The leader shocked Kenyans when he decamped back to Jubilee just days after joining the National Super Alliance (NASA) two weeks ago.

The two leaders are now expected to spearhead re-election campaigns for President Uhuru Kenyatta in Meru.

Supremacy battles between various leaders within Uhuru's campaign team had emerged, threatening Jubilee's goal to achieve maximum turn-out in the repeat polls.

A meeting was held at Sagana State Lodge three weeks ago meant to unite the leaders who have been engaging in arguments over who should lead campaigns in their area.

In Kiambu, current Governor Ferdinand Waititu insinuated that former Governor Kabogo was undermining him. He stated: “Even though I don’t want to be involved in a political spat with some forces who lost, I am aware of their scheme to portray me in a bad light and to insinuate that I am reluctant to take charge of the campaign.”

In Nyeri, Governor Wahome Gakuru had a disagreement with Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua over the campaigns. Rigathi stated: “We had a meeting and agreed to form campaign teams, but I will not sit down and wait, I have my own infrastructure and have already activated my campaign machinery to kick-start campaigns.”
