IEBC Makes Final Decision on Presidential Election Ballot Papers

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made its final decision regarding the printing of ballot papers for the fresh presidential election scheduled for October 26.

Speaking to NTV on Tuesday, Commissioner Roselyne Akombe announced that the body had decided to proceed with the printing of ballot paper through Al Ghurair Printing & Publishing.

According to Akombe, the exercise will begin next week and ballot papers are expected to feature two candidates, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

On Thursday last week, Akombe spoke on the action the Commission would take if the National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate withdraws from the polls.

She divulged that if Odinga sent a formal notification of his withdrawal from the commission, his name would not feature on the ballot papers.

Akombe stated: "We've not received a formal letter from Rt. Hon Raila Odinga withdrawing from the race, as long as we have not received a letter he will remain on the ballot."

"We wouldn't like to have a situation like that, we know from the August election that Hon. Raila has quite a following among Kenyans," she added.

Mr Odinga has declared that there will be no election if his demands on electoral reforms are not met.

Speaking at a Monday press conference, he maintained his stance and also called on Jubilee to drop the proposed amendments to electoral laws.

"It is my democratic right not to take part in a pre-rigged election," he declared.
