Kalonzo to Leave Kenya Ahead of Anti-IEBC Protests

National Super Alliance (NASA) Principal Kalonzo Musyoka is set to leave the country as the coalition begins renewed nationwide anti-IEBC protests.

Musyoka will leave the country in the course of the week for Hawaii in the United States. The reasons for his trip remain unclear.

Former Premier Raila Odinga is also scheduled to leave the country on a separate trip to London where he is expected to give a public lecture at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).

Mr Odinga is listed as the guest speaker at a public forum dubbed Kenya’s Next Test; Democracy, Elections and the Rule of Law Research.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader will speak about the Supreme Court ruling that nullified the August 8 Presidential election and the reforms the Opposition wants implemented before the repeat poll.

Odinga announced the withdrawal of his candidature at Okoa Kenya offices on Tuesday, declaring that NASA had no faith in the electoral body as currently constituted to conduct a free and fair election.

Jubilee candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the opposition leader of intentionally sabotaging the economy.

Kenyatta further criticized Odinga for waiting until Sh12 Billion had been disbursed to plan for the repeat election before reaching the decision to withdraw.

The President has maintained that he is ready for the repeat election and expects Kenyans to rally behind him.

He dismissed claims by the opposition that Jubilee operatives within the IEBC had rigged the August 8th election, insisting he won fair and square.
