Boinnet Explains Why Police Shot 3 NASA Protestors Dead

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has explained why police officers shot dead three National Super Alliance (NASA) demonstrators in Bondo on Friday.

The police boss accused the three of attempting to force their way into a police station during their demonstrations.

He warned demonstrators against engaging in such behavior, notifying them that they would be met with extreme force.

In a statement issued by the Police Service, Boinnet maintained that attacks on the police or police stations would not be tolerated.

“Such attacks will be deemed among other violations of the law, as an attempt to steal firearms, and will elicit the appropriate response,” Mr Boinnet stated.

Bondo Member of Parliament  Gideon Ogolla condemned the police for using live bullets on demonstrators.

Speaking to  Kenyans.co.ke, Ogolla stated: "Even if they are civilians, suspects or criminals, the police have no right to use live bullets."

He claimed that an organized gang had been ferried from outside Bondo to cause chaos and delegitimize the Anti-IEBC protests.

Boinnet also dismissed remarks by NASA MPs John Mbadi and his Ugunja counterpart, Opiyo Wandayi, who accused the police of brutally murdering innocent protestors.

The two argued that the demonstrators were peaceful and they were exercising their constitutional right.
