7 Regions Where Presidential Election May Not Occur

The repeat Presidential election scheduled for the 26th of October 2017 might fail to take place in 7 Opposition strongholds after a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) Leaders vowed to ensure that no election is conducted in their areas.

Led by former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, the leaders maintained that there will be no elections in sections of Eastern, Western, Nyanza and Coastal regions.

"From Monday we will continue with street demonstrations, we are against the October 26 elections and we will boycott elections in Ukambani, coast, Western, upper and lower North Eastern, all parts of Homan Bay, Kisumu, Nyamira among other regions," Muthama was quoted by the Standard.

He criticized the Government for banning peaceful demonstrations in the Central Business Districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu insisting that NASA will continue with the demos as scheduled.

“NASA is exercising its constitutional right by calling for demonstrations and picketing for necessary reforms,” Muthama stated.

The ex-Senator took a swipe at the Jubilee coalition for passing the electoral amendment laws stating that it was unfair for the ruling party to change the rules at halftime.

“You cannot change the constitution at the last minute rush, the constitution is not for Uhuru alone but for over 40 million Kenyans”, he stated.

Makueni Member of Parliament (MP) Dan Maanzo on his part affirmed the coalition's position that there will be no election without reforms adding that for IEBC can only declare a winner if all the 290 constituencies participate in the election.

Regarding the amendment of electoral laws, the Legislator noted "it was a waste of time and money" since it was not passed by the required two-thirds majority.

“The constitution cannot be amended through back parliament laws without NASA legislators, it’s only through a referendum that such a process can be initiated,” Maanzo stated.
