Government Takes First Action on MP Alice Wahome

The government on Sunday took the first action against Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome who is accused of harassing an IEBC official.

The Police have summoned the Jubilee legislator for questioning over the claims that she assaulted a returning officer Martin Malonza in Murang'a.

Thie move to summon her comes a day after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko ordered an immediate probe into the incident.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the DPP noted that the investigation could lead to the arrest and charging of the Legislator.

"I advise you to commence thorough investigations to cause the said MP to be arrested and charged in a court of law with the relevant offenses under the Penal Code and the Election Offences Act,” Senior Assistant DPP Alloys Kemo noted.

Mrs Wahome allegedly assaulted an IEBC official Mr Malonza, accusing him of transmitting the final results to the IEBC headquarters without consulting her.

According to Malonza, the legislator also blocked his way by denying him access to the road.

A video online shows the MP confronting the electoral official.

Nonetheless, the legislator refuted the claims indicating that she did not harass the returning officer in any way.
