DP Ruto Issues New Statement on NASA's Demands

The Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday responded to the demands issued by the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition led by Raila Odinga.

Mr Ruto declared that there would be no elections in the country within 90 days as indicated by the NASA leader.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday, the Deputy President stated that the country was guided by a constitution which did not allow for an election to take place after 90 days.

The Deputy President further noted that there were no means for the former Prime Minister to acquire power through the back door.

"Kenya is not an animal farm where there are animals that are bigger than others. Kenya will move on and there will be no discussion with Raila regarding elections," he stated.

The Jubilee politician indicated that Kenya was under a constitutional democracy and whatever Raila was alleging about another election was not stipulated in the constitution.

"However popular they are they cannot change the constitution" he noted adding that Kenya should not go through a repeat of the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

"Those events should not happen again. We are not fools. It is only fools who do not learn from their mistakes," he stated.

The DP also noted that the Opposition should stop threatening Kenyans with violence.

"Raila chose, out of will, not to participate in the election. Kenyans had nothing to do with that decision. He should stop threatening peace in the country," the DP noted.

On the eve of the repeat election day, the NASA leader made a declaration that NASA will turn into a resistance movement and push for a free and credible election within 90 days.

Mr Odinga noted that the resistance movement primary aim would be to restore a government established in compliance with the country's constitution.
