Government Plans to Form New Ministry

The Government of Kenya is reportedly planning to form a new Ministry in the Cabinet.

The new Department which will be split from the Energy Ministry will focus on commercializing Kenya's oil.

If the plan is materialized, a new Cabinet Secretary will be appointed to be in charge of the petroleum docket.

The formation of this new Ministry is meant to provide room to reorganize the Energy sector into smaller and more manageable units.

"We understand the Government is not happy how the early oil scheme and the oil sector is being run, and the split will ease the bulky work in the Energy Ministry docket,” a source quoted by the Standard stated.

The scheme was suspended after a lot of losses were recorded during the venture, the project was also met with several logistics challenges.

The creation of the new docket is aimed at reorganizing the ministry to improve the oil scheme in the country.
