NASA Demonstrations Set For Next Week

The National Super Alliance (NASA) is set to hold one demonstration next week against the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the October 26 repeat poll.

Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, NASA leader Raila Odinga called on all his supporters to prepare for the one protest scheduled to kick off the million-man march.

The march will be preceded by the inaugural convention of the People’s Assembly. The People’s Assembly will be a broad-based forum of elected leaders, civil society workers, religious leaders, women, youth and economic interest groups.

NASA is alleged to have postponed their demonstrations to give way for students sitting for their final examinations. The KCPE candidates finished their examinations on Thursday, while KCSE exams are scheduled to kick off on Monday and end later this month.

Raila is alleged to have asked all NASA Members of Parliament to each ferry at least 3,000 supporters to Nairobi for the People’s Assembly march.

The march is supposed to build momentum for a revolution against Uhuru’s administration. The lawmakers will be working closely with their MCAs to rally opposition troops and backers into the capital city for the launch of pro-democracy protests.

Raila pulled out from the repeat presidential election on October 10, stating that it was only through his withdrawal from the showdown that the country will have a credible, free and fair election as per the law.

NASA further announced that it would hold nationwide demonstrations starting Wednesday, October 11 in Nairobi the clarion call being No Reform, No Election.”

Police and opposition supporters clashed over the latter defying the government’s ban and took their anti-IEBC demos to city centres.

The opposition was pushing for systems and personnel changes at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before repeat presidential election.
