Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Asks Government to Block MPs' Salaries

Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria on Wednesday asked the government to block all Members of Parliament's (MPs) salaries.

The Jubilee legislator argued that the MPs should not be paid since they have neither worked in Parliament nor their constituencies.

"Why reward me for simply staying alive?" the Gatundu South MP posed.

Through his Facebook post, the parliamentarian, therefore noted: "The logical thing for Speaker Justin Muturi to do is not to pay us our November salaries."

He made this statement shortly after Parliament was forced to adjourn until 29th November after the Opposition failed to send its representatives to House Committees.

This came just a day after the MPs returned from a break they took to participate in repeat presidential election campaigns.

The absence of the NASA representatives to the House committee, therefore, derailed the formation of the National Government Constituency Development Fund NG-CDF committee.

The NG-CDF is an essential committee in the performance of the MPs work, part of its functions is to prioritize and approve project proposals from all wards in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu asked the government to pay former MPs who lost in the August 8 election their pension.

Mr Makali asked Speaker Muturi to intervene and save his former colleagues stating that the situation has worsened because of the failure to set up committees in the House.
