President Uhuru Kenyatta has unexpectedly moved the headquarters of his presidential duties from State House to his Harambee House office.
Between 2013 and 2017, the President almost exclusively held meetings, met dignitaries and even addressed the press from his State House residence and only occasionally worked from Harambee House.
In the past week, however, President Kenyatta has held a series of meetings in his official office within the city centre.

The Nation reports that the move came as a surprise to his State House operatives who have had to make the drastic change without notice.
President Kenyatta begins his day by meeting with his deputy William Ruto. Ruto alluded to this appointment during the burial of Bishop Cornelius Korir where he noted that he learnt of the Bishop's death while he was in a meeting with the President.

State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu confirmed that the shift has taken place, explaining that the President is free to work from both offices.
"Harambee House is the Office of the President. He often works from there. He also works from State House," he clarified.
Former President Mwai Kibaki is remembered for similarly conducted business from State House during his first term and moving to Harambee House during his second term.
Sources from the office also revealed that the President, as well as DP Ruto, is not overly concerned with the standstill that is currently in Parliament.
"You notice that even as NASA grapples with lack of leadership, Jubilee is also yet to nominate its members to various committees. They won't do it until they are sure there won't be another re-run of the presidential poll.
"Appointing MPs to chair or be members of various committees may open the President to political backlash from some quarters and this may be problematic if he goes out looking for votes," a source disclosed.
