Police Officer Brutally Killed by Mob Justice

A police officer based in Kogelo Police Station was on Monday evening killed by rowdy youth in Barkowino area in Siaya county.

The officer was forcefully removed from a Public Service Vehicle by boda-boda operators who claimed that he was protecting a suspect who had stolen a motorbike.

In a report released by the police, the deceased had earlier been seen with the suspect, Caleb Omoro, who the operators wanted to lynch for allegedly stealing a motorbike from one of their colleagues.

Nonetheless, the youth did not know that the officer was tracking another burglary suspect who was Omoro's accomplice.

"The officer boarded a matatu heading to Siaya but approximately one kilometer to the station, the vehicle was waylaid by a group of boda-boda operators who forcefully ejected him,” part of the report indicated.

The statement further noted that the vehicle whose registration had been unidentified left him where he was subjected to mob justice.

"Police officers rushed to the scene upon receiving information from a member of the public and rushed him to Bondo County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," the police report stated.
