Join Jubilee to be Relevant in 2022 - Joho Told

A section of veteran Mombasa politicians have asked Governor Hassan Joho to work with the Jubilee regime.

Led by former MPs Ramadhan Kajembe, Suleiman Shakombo and Mohammed Jahazi, the leaders asked Joho to "swallow his pride" and join hands with the government if he wants to remain relevant beyond 2022.

The leaders also asked the Governor to drop secession talk and instead improve Mombasa's socio-economic and political welfare.

“We don’t support any secession rhetoric, these are sentiments of a person who has failed to deliver in his first term.

“Our leaders are leading us in the wrong direction," stated Shakombo.

His sentiments were echoed by Kajembe who stated that the current crop of coastal leaders were misleading the region.

"There is nothing to celebrate while in the Opposition. There is no future for us as Mombasa residents if our leaders continue to keep us in the Opposition,” remarked Kajembe.

The calls were supported by Jahazi, who is also the chairman of the Mombasa Council of Elders. He accused the MPs of blindly following Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“Our leaders have lost track, there is no other President apart from Uhuru Kenyatta and snubbing the celebrations is a show of lack of patriotism,” added Jahazi.

Joho has been a strong pillar of the opposition in Mombasa and in November together with his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi started talks to ensure the break-away from Kenya succeeds.

The leaders— including 12 MPs and four senators— announced that they would use all legal means, both local and international, to achieve their ambition.
