Lucky Kenyan Wins Sh230 Million SportPesa Jackpot

SportPesa, one of Africa's leading gaming platforms, on Tuesday announced that a lucky Kenyan had won its Sh230,742,881 mega jackpot.

The name of the winner was, however, withheld but the amount is the biggest ever won in Kenya.

"We are proud to announce that the #SportPesaMegaJackpot worth KShs 230,742,881/= has been WON! It is the BIGGEST amount ever in Kenya!!!

"We have a winner! More to be revealed in the coming moments!" read a tweet on their official page.

This comes almost a year after Samuel Abisai correctly predicted the outcomes of 17 games and became the first Kenyan to win the Mega Jackpot of Sh221 Million.

SportPesa runs the Mega Jackpot games every weekend which will start over again at Sh100 Million and the amount keeps increasing weekly until someone wins by correctly predicting the outcome of 17 games.

In May 2017, three winners correctly predicted 17 games and took home Sh37 Million each.

Florence Machogu, a 60-year-old mother of six from Molo, Nakuru County, was among the winners and became the third woman to win the SportPesa Jackpot.

The other winners were Daniel Rono and Geoffrey Keitany who also correctly predicted the games.

In January, a report by consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) revealed Kenya’s betting tax is the highest in the region and ahead of gaming hubs like the famed Las Vegas.

PwC stated the new 35 percent tax on all gambling revenues is higher compared to other African countries like South Africa which charges 9.6 percent, Rwanda (13) and Uganda (20).
