Senator Orengo Reveals 2 Things President Uhuru Must do to Prove Handshake was Genuine

Siaya Senator James Orengo stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta must compensate families who lost their kin in the 2017 post-election violence and allow Miguna Miguna back to the country to prove the handshake with NASA leader Raila Odinga was genuine.

Speaking on Sunday at a funeral in Alego Usonga, the Senate Minority leader urged other leaders to support the handshake for the good of the country.

Orengo remarked: “There are people who are very afraid, who feel that every time I say that Raila gave so much in this handshake and deserve so much, I mess up the agreement which is not the case."

The Senator further stated that the discussions and agreements between Raila and President Kenyatta should bring development and change to the people of Nyanza.

“For us to discuss other weightier issues, we must sort out these crucial ones first. There is no way we can let the blood of our people go like that," he stated.

"We want to end corruption, tribalism and have Kenya mature in democracy and justice prevail but rule of law must be respected despite the handshake,” he added.

Orengo's remarks come as the roadmap for the implementation of last month’s pact signified by a handshake between President Kenyatta and Odinga is expected to be unveiled next week.

The committee which is crafting the roadmap, co-chaired by Amb. Martin Kimani and Lawyer Paul Mwangi met on Saturday to put final touches on the plan of action.

Amb. Kimani maintained that the President and the opposition leader had been hands-on in the shaping of the national dialogue agenda, which the joint team wants to be an all-inclusive process, bringing on board all stakeholders.

He further maintained that the roadmap involved a series of conversations on the 9-point agenda that President Kenyatta and Raila had identified in resolving long-standing national challenges.
