Several Dead in Murang'a Landslide

A deadly landslide in Murang'a County on Saturday killed 5 people.

4 of them were a couple and two children whose home was swept away at Inoi village in Kahuro sub-county.

Another man who was rescued passed away at the Muriranjas hospital where he had been rushed

The County Disaster Management team started evacuation efforts in the area specifically targeting 14 homes.

Deputy county commissioner Amos Ogendi asked area residents to accomodate those who were displaced as the county team sought to put in place permanent measures to assist them.

Another landslide took place in Gitugi, Mathioya Sub-County but did not result in any casualties.

A 70-year old man was rescued by area residents after his home was swept away.

Charles Laboso, an administrator in the area, announced that the government would seek to evacuate 20 families living in the area.

The families were to be taken to the Mutitu polytechnic where the county government pledged to provide foodstuffs, beddings and temporary shelter.

The heavy rainfall witnessed in recent weeks was blamed for the landslides.
