List of Lawyers Defending NYS Scandal Suspects

Suspects in the NYS scandal have no option but go for top brains in the legal profession since the prosecution has undoubtedly declared having adequate evidence against them.

The suspects were on Tuesday afternoon arraigned in court after being locked up since Monday morning and are expected to face close to 10 charges.

Among the suspects in the scandal is suspended Director General Richard Ndubai who has picked renowned lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

Ombeta only represents those he believes are innocent and even if they are not, he would offer his service since everyone deserves legal representation.

His cheapest job is said to pay around Sh170, 000.

"I take complex criminal cases and win them, so naturally, my name is at the top of people’s minds whenever there is a tough case," Mr Ombeta had claimed when a publication asked him whether he hunts for top crime cases.

In one of the City lawyer's successes, he represented the Akasha brothers who were later extradited to the United States. He won the case and the brothers in a drug trafficking case were released on a Sh60 Million bond.

Another defence lawyer Kihanga Mwangi, who featured in the case on the murder of Mr Solomon Mwangi, the principal of Kiru Boys High School in Murang'a in November 2016 has been cropped in.

Mr Kihanga will form part of the defence team for NYS Saga suspects businesswoman Yvonne Wanjiku Ngugi and businessman James Nderitu Thuita.

Lawyer Gachie Mewanza, who in 2015 represented transgender lobbyists in a suit against the state over discrimination against the 'third gender', is also on the job.
