Controversial political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has over the years been the greatest critic of NASA leader Raila Odinga greatly differing with on a wide range of issues.
However, after the National Prayer Breakfast which Raila attended, Mutahi could not help admiring the level of patriotism exhibited by Raila.
Taking to Twitter, Mutahi confessed "I never thought I would admit this truth so soon."
"That Raila Odinga is a true statesman. It takes a big man to do what Raila has done. Bravo Babaman!" Mutahi commended him.
He was responding to a post where Raila had indicated: "I was glad to join other leaders and fellow citizens at the annual national prayer breakfast to celebrate the spirit of peace and reconciliation in the country.
"I intend to do everything in my power going forward to consolidate reconciliation and fight corruption," Raila had stated.
Different quarters have been pessimistic about the recent developments including the handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Doubting whether the move was a political brokerage or had malicious undertones, some leaders have questioned how the perceived arch political enemies could put aside their differences for the sake of the country.
Mutahi's admission, however, has attracted a variety of reactions from social media users.
You used to talk all ill statements about Raila before elections and he won, now you are praising him! You are no better than the political hypocrites in this Country. Smh!.
