Driver Shot Dead in Embu County Governor's Office

An Embu County fire engine driver was earlier this week shot dead by police as he tried to get into the governor's office compound.

Martin Muchangi was gunned down by Administration Police officers who were manning the compound after they spotted him trying to access the premises through an opening in the perimeter wall.

The 25-year-old county staff worker died on the spot having been shot six times.

Confirming the incident, Embu West AP commandant Daudi Mohamed explained that the Muchangi met his end in unfortunate circumstances when he failed to alert the officers as he was he was getting into the compound.

"He had gone out of the compound without alerting the officers and was on his way back when he met his end. It was drizzling and Muchangi had covered his head with a cloth, making it difficult to identify him," the commandant stated.

The commandant defended the officers adding that they followed protocol on how to handle a situation involving an intruder accessing the premises.

"They did not know whether the ‘intruder’ had a sinister motive.

"A small security lapse can be costly and employees must help the police to secure the offices," he stated.

He conveyed that crime incidents were on the rise in the area and the police were on high alert.

"Residents are robbed, mugged and houses and business premises burgled, especially in Embu town and Lunda estate where county workers live," Mohamed explained.
