A man is fighting for his life after falling into a coma when three nails were hammered into his skull in Meru County.

In unclear circumstances, Robert Muchangi (28), who works as a mason, was rushed to Maua Methodist hospital by a neighbour following the bizarre incident.

The neighbour Dominisiano Kaunga, who claimed to have spoken to the victim before losing consciousness narrated that assault occurred at Kabuitu market.

“He was attacked at around 6 PM. l got a call that someone had been found unconscious in my homestead and had two nails hammered into his head.

“He mentioned the names of the people he said attacked him. He said he had gone to claim his money after working for one of the attackers,” Kaunga was quoted by the Standard.

He added that he rushed the victim (Muchangi) to the hospital in Meru where he was attended to by Igembe South Medical Officer of Health Michael Kariuki.

The doctor confirmed that the patient had three nails in his skull noting that two were deep.

Dr Kariuki added that one nail had been plucked out before the victim was brought to the hospital adding: "We referred him to KNH when doctors realised there could be severe damage to the nervous system."

Muchangi, who is a father of two, was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where doctors managed to pull out the four-inch nails.

Family members took photos showing two nails completely driven into Muchangi's head.

On Monday, he was in critical condition as X-Rays performed on him showed that the nails had damaged his skull and brain.
