Siaya County Government Statement After Misleading Gate Signage

The County Government of Siaya was on Monday forced to issue a statement to clarify the details written on the gate to one of the county's stadia.

The poorly organised words on the gate led one to read "County Akala Government of Stadium Siaya" instead of "County of Government of Siaya, Akala Stadium".

Explaining the oddity, the county's press unit blamed the painter contracted to do the job for not carrying out the instructions as were issued.

"The attention of the County Government of Siaya has been drawn to a misleading signage at the gate of Akala Stadium in Gem Sub County largely difficult to interpret at initial reading.

"While the signage is not the reflection of the instructions originally shared with the contractor by the County Government of Siaya, it is notable that the contractor wrote the signage with each side of the gate in mind and not both sides read together as instructed," the statement outlined.

The communications directorate further expressed regret at the incident while urging members of the public not to make a fuss of the incident.

"The contractor has instructions to immediately correct the signage to reflect the requirements of the contract. Further, contractors are hereby directed by the County Government of Siaya to follow instructions provided by contracting authorities moving forward.

"Members of the public are encouraged not to make a major fuss out of this regrettable error.

"Pointedly, great works are ongoing within the stadium and county officers will be even more vigilant for quality works moving forward," the statement outlined.

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi was among the first to comment on the gate, blaming the electorate for voting in incompetent leaders.
