Jemimah Wangari Convicted for Causing Disturbance Outside CS Matiangi's Office

Street preacher Jemimah Wangari Waruingi was on Tuesday sentenced to one year in jail after she admitted to causing a disturbance outside Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's office.

The woman allegedly camped outside the Ministry of Interior offices at Harambee House through Monday afternoon demanding to see the CS.

Ms Waruingi, who has gained a reputation for herself on Nairobi streets, had an altercation with the guards after she claimed to have a message for the CS.

Guards reported that she shouted at them stating: "Lazima nione Matiang'i, shida yangu ijulikane leo (I must see Matiang'i today, my problem must be known)".

The guards who testified against her claimed that she created a disturbance in a manner likely to breach peace.

Appearing before Milimani Senior Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyiot, Ms Waruingi accepted that she shouted at the guards of the premises shared by the office of the president.

The senior magistrate, however, delivered a non-custodial jail term to the preacher, meaning that she will not be placed in prison.

Ms Waruingi is well known for her numerous alleged prophecies on the deaths of prominent persons and politicians.

She claims to be anointed by God to deliver messages about success and tragedies to Kenya’s top politicians.

She, however, did not explicitly state what her intended message to the Interior CS was. It is also uncertain whether the CS was at his office at the time of the incident.
