Nakuru Man Charged Over Gideon Moi’s Land

A Nakuru court on Monday charged a man for attempting to grab Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's land by conspiring to defraud him 1,338 acres valued at over Ksh100 million.

The man, Albert Kipkosgei Lessonet, was charged with obtaining the registration of the land parcel under false pretense. He was also charged with two other counts of forgery.

Albert claimed the first green card of the land parcel presented was signed to him by a Nakuru land registrar, Joseph Mulinge Munguti. However, the signature in the second green card is unknown.

A green card indicates all the transactions that have taken place when land sales and transfers are being made. These are the documents Albert is alleged to have forged.

He also allegedly forged another green card, which he stated was signed by a different Nakuru land registrar. Apart from the first signee of the green card document, the others remain unknown.

Nakuru Principal Magistrate Liz Gicheha charged Albert with others who were absent in court for the intention to defraud the Baringo Senator of his land.

His lawyer argued that he would appear in court when needed, and as such, there was no need to deny him bond. The prosecution did not oppose the plea.

“My client is the sole breadwinner of his family and as we speak there is nobody to take care of children. I plead this court to grant him reasonable bond and cash bail terms,” stated Albert’s lawyer, Ochang Ajingo.

Albert denied all the charges and was released on a Ksh5 million bond.

In 2013, the Baringo Senator sued a businessman over the same parcel of land. Gideon stopped Jayden Dodhia from claiming ownership of the land and was issued with a notice ensuring the land is not trespassed.
