Moses Wetangula Warned of Why He Might Be Next on DPP Noordin Haji's List

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula found himself in hot soup on Tuesday after a tweet he posted following the arrest of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

Mwilu was apprehended following allegations of stealing, abuse of office and tax evasion.

In a tweet that read “the fight against corruption should not look like a settlement of ‘issues’! Avoid the drama we are witnessing,” the senator expressed his stand on her arrest in words that did not go down well with Kenyans.

Netizens were quick to remind Wetangula that he might be the next one on DPP Noordin Haji’s list in relation to the Tokyo Embassy saga.

During his stint at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in his capacity as Minister, Wetangula was allegedly involved in the loss of Ksh 1.2 billion during the Tokyo Embassy sale and the illegal sale of a Turkana oil block for Ksh840 million.

It is alleged that Wetangula’s brushing off of advice from his office cost the government in excess of Ksh1.1 billion in land deals as the land in Tokyo was overvalued and purchased above market value.

A report done by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) then Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) revealed that there was no lawyer used in signing the agreement as alleged by the minister.

Wetangula claimed hiring a lawyer would be expensive as it would cost the government Ksh 45 million while it would cost a meagre Ksh3.4 million instead.

Further, he claimed a man by the name Shihoshoshi was the lawyer involved in drafting the agreement yet he only facilitated the registration of the property.

In another report done by the BBC, Wetangula was also named in a bribery scandal involving the British American Tobacco (BAT) in which the company illegally paid politicians and civil servants to stifle anti-smoking laws and also collect business intelligence on rival companies.
