The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Monday demanded an apology from the Daily Nation over an article it described as misleading.
In a statement addressed to Nation Media Group's News Editor, the Secretary of Public Prosecutions Dorcas Oduor directed the media house to make amends over the piece titled: Noordin Haji: I'll Bring Down the High and Mighty in Graft Cases.
"Our attention has been drawn to a misleading article by your digital newspaper of Monday 3rd September, 2018 claiming that the DPP uttered the words during a telephone interview with the reporter," the statement reads in part.
Odour added that the DPP had not had any telephone conversation with the author as claimed in the article.
"The DPP has not at any time, in his press releases or press conferences said that he will bring down the high and mighty as alleged by the misleading headline in the fight against corruption," she conveyed.
The statement concludes: "In this regard, therefore, we demand an explanation and an immediate apology over the article by the close of business Monday 3rd September 2018."
The piece, published by the Nation, alleged that the DPP spoke to the writer on the phone assuring that he had strong evidence to secure convictions of high profile cases.
“We only moved to court after ensuring that we have gathered enough evidence. The Judiciary now has to play its part because we have everything in place," DPP Haji was quoted by the publication.
