Fire Breaks Out in Kiambio Slums Near Eastleigh Airbase

A huge fire broke out at a section of Kiambio slums in Nairobi on Thursday night.

A number of houses were razed down by the fast-spreading fire at the slum which borders the Eastleigh air base.

Area residents were the first to respond and tried to contain the inferno with buckets of water.

The Nairobi fire brigade was en route to the scene at the time of going to press.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Panicked residents asked Kenya Power to cut off electricity connection to the area as some feared an electric fault was responsible.

Following a recent fire at Deep Sea slum, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris put city Governor Mike Sonko on the spot over the county's poor response.

The county engines reportedly arrived on the scene without adequate water.

She further noted that the Governor had promised to have at least one county fire engine stationed in every constituency.

"Gov @MikeSonko, can we have a firetruck in every constituency for rapid response to emergencies? And while we're at it, let's ensure the trucks are well equipped," she tweeted.
