A man was shot dead on Tuesday morning in cold blood under what is believed to be a daylight assassination.
According to reports by eyewitnesses, the man who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 was accosted by the killers who were riding a motorbike.
The black V8 registration number KCN 500Q landed in a ditch near Marurui area along the Northern Bypass.
The incident caused a huge traffic snarl-up along the road between Kahawa West and Marurui in Kiambu County.
The killers are said to have sped off shortly after killing the man who is said to be a businessman.
A similar incident was witnessed in June when a Mercedes Benz was sprayed with a hail of bullets near the Vincentian Retreat Centre on Thika Super Highway.
The victim of the Thika incident identified as Wilson Mwangi Munene was reportedly a businessman based in Roysambu and a "police informer in Nairobi".
Central regional coordinator Wilson Njega indicated that the spent cartridges from the scene revealed that the victim was shot at more than 70 times and were from AK 47 rifles and pistols.
His car was said to have veered off the road, under the hail of bullets, whose impact nearly yanked off the passenger seat.
The high number of bullets spent was a clear indication that Munene was not meant to survive.
Media reports painted a picture of a man who felt he was living on borrowed time given that he had erased photos from his social media account before his death, fearing they could be used to trace him.
