Government Pathologist Reveals What Killed Tout in Police Station

Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor on Tuesday revealed that the cause of death of a tout who was arrested in Mombasa is not as the police had claimed.

According to the police, 40-year-old Caleb Ospino died as a result of excessive alcohol in his system.

Dr Oduor, in collaboration with Independent Medico-Legal Unit Pathology Professor Emily Adhiambo, however, noted the cause of death as multiple injuries.

Dr Adhiambo elaborated that they also discovered bleeding in the brain, bleeding on the sides of the back, a fracture of one of the ribs of the left side chest with bleeding into the lungs on both sides, and a tear within one of the lungs.

"We have concluded that the cause of the death is multiple injuries on the head, the upper spine of the neck and chest injuries with a fracture.

"We now give the opportunity to investigative officers to do their investigation to find out the truth," the pathologists announced in a press conference.

The deceased man was arrested in Mikindani area where he was said to have been indulging in illicit brew on September 18, 2018.

Family members were shocked to find out that he had passed away in custody where they demanded an autopsy.

Shortly after receiving the results of the post-mortem, the family of the deceased demanded justice for their kin.

"We are asking the government to intervene and those found culpable should be held responsible," Ospino's brother, Elisha Otieno, stated.
