Tusker FC Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi Set for Transfer to Ethiopian Giants St Georges SC

Harambee Stars Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, who plays for KPL side Tusker FC is set for a multi-million transfer to Ethiopian top-flight club Saint Georges S.C.

Matasi reportedly caught the eye of scouts as he kept three consecutive clean sheets for Kenya in the last AFCON 2019 qualifying matches, including two against Ethiopia.

“We had an option of signing a Ghanaian goalkeeper from the Zambia Super League but Matasi’s exploits with the Kenyan national team in the Cup of Nations qualifiers have convinced us otherwise,” an unnamed source confirmed to Nation.

While the exact figures remain unclear, the transfer is expected to be one of the biggest in recent times with Tusker assured of a windfall.

The Ruaraka-based club which signed Matasi from Posta Rangers barely four months ago already issued him with a release letter.

"We wish we had him much longer here because of his abilities but you can’t hold on to such a player when his time comes.

"He already has his release letter from Tusker and we can only wish him the very best,” an official told the press.

Matasi is reportedly en route to Addis Ababa to complete the move.

Personal terms and a medical are all that remain for the shot-stopper to become a player of the storied club founded in 1935.

It was considered a symbol of Ethiopian nationalism and resistance during the time of occupation by fascist Italy.
