Raila's Mission in South Africa After AU Appointment

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga who was recently appointed High Representative for Infrastructure Development by the African Union (AU) laid out some of his plans for the continent as he made a trip to South Africa.

Raila visited the offices of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) in Midrand where he took top officials through various presentations.

He explained plans to be implemented over the next decade aimed at connecting African countries and easing travel restrictions.

In particular, their discussions focused on missing links along the Trans-National Highway corridors, the continental High Speed Rail program and open skies.

The NEPAD team was led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ibrahim Mayaki.

Mayaki assured Raila of NEPAD's support during his time in the continental office.

"We are fully committed and available to support you...your success is our success," he stated.

Raila, on the other hand, noted that he was happy to engage the NEPAD team as he thanked Mayaki for welcoming them.

He later tweeted that they had 'lively discussions' on a number of key issues.

"It’s time for Africa to get moving and I look forward to working with the team," he wrote.
