Magufuli’s Statement That Led to Blocking of Raila’s Swearing-in

Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna has come out guns blazing in his new book, Treason: The Case Against Tyrants and Renegades to give untold details about NASA leader Raila Odinga’s swearing-in as the People’s President.

According to Miguna, the swearing in had caused too much tension that the party had contemplated holding it in neighbouring Tanzania.

Miguna alleges that the NASA leader sent Siaya Senator James Orengo to Tanzania's president John Magufuli to request him to allow the ceremony conducted in his country.

However, the Tanzania President rejected the bid, arguing that leadership was a gift from God.

According to Orengo, Magufuli believed that leadership was ‘a gift from God’ and that if God had not given Raila that gift, there was no reason to pursue our plans and that Raila should forget about being sworn in as The People’s President,” a section from Miguna’s book reads.

He also revealed that the NASA camp translated this to mean that Magufuli believed that God did not want Raila to be President.

Miguna continues to allege that the ODM leader almost cancelled his own swearing-in since he was afraid of the repercussions that would emerge following threats from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government.

Raila was dissolving in fear, right before us. He was scared to death of the high treason charges Uhuru Kenyatta’s minions like [Attorney General] Githu Muigai had threatened us with,” Miguna writes.

He goes on to claim that the controversial swearing in not only caused a rift in the NASA party but that it was also opposed by some of Raila’s close family members.

According to Miguna, Raila's wife Ida and his elder brother Oburu Odinga opposed the swearing-in ceremony.
