Two girls died and three others sustained serious injuries on Thursday after a driver knocked them down in Rakoro village on the Bondo-Gobei road.

The two, Tyra Judith, a class three pupil at Gobei Primary School and Lizzy Auma, a form three student at Gobei secondary school died.

Judith died on the spot while Auma died while undergoing treatment at the Bondo Sub-county Hospital.

According to Citizen Digital, the driver of the Toyota Probox was trying to flee the scene when he rammed into a group of three students.

The three, Maryanne Adhiambo, a form four student, Beatrice Achieng', a form one student and Norah Akinyi, a standard six pupil sustained serious injuries and are admitted at Bondo sub-county hospital.

The assistant chief Emily Awimbo indicated that Judith and Auma were walking while the other three girls were on a motorbike when the Probox veered off the road and hit them separately.

“The vehicle which was carrying several crates of eggs lost control and swerved off the road before it hit the girls on their way to school,” Awimbo added.

On seeing this, the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled. Villagers who witnessed the incident rushed the injured to hospital.

Police are investigating the case.
