Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, on Saturday, announced that Kenya will host one of the three UNHCR African regional HQs.
The announcement came in the backdrop of a meeting between the CS and the organization's boss Filippo Grandi.
Juma also held bilateral talks with the UN Assistant-Secretary-General for Africa Bintou Keita where they discussed the consolidation of UN operations in Africa for effective delivery of services.
Among the issues discussed were the peace and security situation in the region, and how to improve peace operations.
Furthermore, the CS also held talks with Chen Xiaodong, the Assistant Foreign Minister of China on the sidelines of the Executive Council.
The discussions centred on the strengthening of our bilateral cooperation through trade and investment; as well as our cooperation at the regional and global arena.
On Friday, Juma confirmed the news that Kenya had been re-elected to the 15-member African Union Peace and Security Council for another three-year term.
The Peace and Security Council is the standing organ of the AU for the prevention, management, and resolution of conflicts.
Its core functions include conducting early warning and preventive diplomacy, facilitating peace-making, establishing peace-support operations and, in certain circumstances, recommending intervention in the Member States to promote peace, security, and stability.
In 2018, Juma stated that Kenya was committed to lead efforts towards the restoration of peace in South Sudan, as part of an international peace campaign.
