Kenyans Fired Up After Cashier is Fined 600K for Stealing Ksh12.9M

Perminus Njoroge, who worked as a cashier at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology in 2011 is said to have acquired Ksh12.9 million unlawfully.

Njoroge had been charged with embezzling public funds through fraudulent and irregular cashbook adjustments.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the said offense earned Njoroge a fine of Ksh 600,000 or 1-year imprisonment term.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution took to its Twitter account to announce the ruling which elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.

“This is a big joke,” read one post.

“Was the Ksh 12,980,000 recovered? Let’s start from there,” read another.

Comments from other netizens indicated that Kenya's corruption shadow was still lurking and haunting the country.

Other comments highlighted the questionability of the Judiciary on its ruling and sarcastically mentioned how corruption was a good business.

The DPP also noted that they would appeal against the sentence.
