A pre-unit pupil from Olengisha Bright Star Academy in Bomet, got free specialized treatment at the Aga-khan hospital courtesy of Deputy President William Ruto.
The Deputy President sponsored Ian Kipkoech after he recited a poem that entertained him at a public forum.
The 6-year-old, together with his mother, Yvonne Chelegat, got a chance to speak to the Deputy President where the mother narrated her son’s pain.
She recalled how Ian first developed a small scar on his back and although they sought treatment, she could not afford it.
The boy was diagnosed with a disease identified as Spina Bifida.
Spina Bifida is a birth defect where there is an incomplete closing of the backbone and membranes around the spinal cord.
On Tuesday, the DP sent his communication director Emmanuel Talam to airlift the duo from Longisa, Bomet to Aga Khan hospital.
Joyce Laboso, Bomet Governor, accompanied Ian and his mother to the hospital.
“Thank you, your Excellency, the DP @WilliamsRuto for keeping the promise to cater for the boy’s medical bills,” she stated.
