Warning That Uhuru Issued Before Cabinet Reshuffle

Just a day before he made changes in the Cabinet, President Uhuru Kenyatta had issued a series of stern warnings to government officials.

During a burial ceremony in Murang'a County for the late Mzee Kamau Kabugi, a seemingly agitated Uhuru stated that he was tired of government officials who did not deliver on their promises.

The president scorned public officers who were after enriching themselves through proceeds of graft.

He was addressing the congregation in Kikuyu when he warned, "People think I'm joking but you will see people get arrested."

"You will either have to return stolen public funds or go to jail and reminisce with other jailbirds about your heydays" Uhuru added.

The president reiterated that he had abandoned public officers who were busy politicking instead of serving the public.

"Mimi sina nafasi wa kujibizana na mtu, kwa sababu nilisema tuweke siasa kando, tufanyie wananchi kazi (I have no time for back and forth arguments because I directed that we shun politics and work for Kenyans)," stated Uhuru.

Uhuru also put the Judiciary on notice over the handling of corruption cases involving high profile individuals.

He cited Boniface Murage who was arrested, arraigned in court, and sentenced, all within 48 hours over what Uhuru termed as very little amount of money, whereas graft cases dragged on for months and years.

"We saw a young man being arrested for sneaking his child out of a hospital and was charged and released the same day. Why not do the same with those accused of stealing billions?” wondered the president.
