Governor and His Deputy Fight Over Employees

Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama and his deputy Amos Nyaribo are fighting over 400 employees that were allegedly hired without due process.

Nyaribo wrote a letter to the Public Service Board seeking the nullification of the more than 400 employees who he claims were irregularly employed by the governor.

He claimed that the new staff were already on the payroll yet no one from the Public Service Commission admitted to being involved in the recruitment process.

“Whereas some of the recruits have already been included in the payroll, nobody admits openly to be involved in these processes including the Public Service Board, County Secretary and Directorate of Human Resource,“ lamented Nyaribo as reported by Daily Nation.

Support staff and enforcement officers are the most affected among the 400 staff.

Supporters of Nyagarama claimed that the move by Nyaribo was meant to undermine the governor’s leadership.

Nyaribo and Nyagarama previously had tussles regarding the employment process since 2018 and the controller of the budget had also issued a warning to the County Government over its huge wage bill.

Nyagarama ordered for a staff audit in 2018 and while on sick leave, Nyaribo fired 24 County workers who allegedly received Kshs1.2 million as an overpayment of monthly salaries.
