Masters Student Who is a Bodaboda Rider

When Martin Mutitu graduated with his Bachelors of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University he was full of hope and optimism looking forward to what life had in store for him.

As the quote goes “the roots of education are bitter but the fruits are sweet," however, this was not the case for Mutitu who had a difficult time finding employment.

Speaking to a local publication Mutitu vividly recalls how one employer offered him a basic salary of Ksh 10,000.

“A graduate earning Ksh 10,000? how will I pay my bills? How will I eat? How will I send money home?” are some of the questions that ran through his mind, he explained.

Martin's journey, as it is for many people, was not all rosy. He did a number of menial jobs to make ends meet but one morning he felt he had had enough.

He then decided enrolled for a Master’s Degree programme at the same institution in a bid to broaden his knowledge and position himself for a good job.

After which he opted to venture into the bodaboda business which as he claims makes him an average of Ksh 500per day for his trips around Githunguri town.

He spends the money for his upkeep and his pending school projects.

Mutitu was pictured a few days ago along Thika road near Pangani holding a placard requesting the President and any other employer to offer him an opportunity in employment.

Although he is yet to receive any offers he is still optimistic that something will come his way and he will be able to complete his education.
