Mutahi Ngunyi launches 5th Estate TV Station

Political analyst and the former University of Nairobi don Mutahi Ngunyi has announced the launch of a new TV station.

The station dubbed “The 5th Estate TV” is named after a show that Mutahi and other persons have been hosting on his YouTube channel.

“5th Estate is now a TV station. Positive, edifying and happy” Mutahi stated in his tweet.

The station will be airing on free to air channels (PANG), StarTimes channel 186 and Gotv channel 888.

He went ahead to announce job vacancies and promised to personally train those who were not experienced.

“looking for young raw talent. No experience needed. If clever I will train you. Testing channel on Gotv and StarTimes,” he concluded.

The station was born from the weekly shows that he and his panelists held on his YouTube channel in which they analyze and asses the political temperatures in the country.

Ngunyi has previously taught at the University of Nairobi, University of Leeds (Visiting Research Fellow), University of Helsinki in Finland (Visiting Research Fellow), Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (Associate Research Fellow) and the Scandinavian Institute for African Studies (SIAS) as a researcher on structural adjustments and political conditionality.

He is the brainchild behind Fort Hall College, a tertiary institution registered by the Kenya Government under the Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA). Its certificate courses are accredited by the Kenya Government through the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

Mutahi Ngunyi is also known for his controversial political statements that most politicians see as personal attacks.
