John Mututho Comes to Aid of Ex-Uhuru Escort

John Mututho, the former National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has come to the aide of a former Recce Squad officer, Nicholas Langat, who worked for the president.

The 28-year-old was suspended from his former work due to alcoholism.

The former NACADA boss has now come to his aide after he welcomed Langat to the John Mututho 'Empowerment Centre (JOMEC) where he will stay for rehabilitation.

He has also urged the Ministry of Interior to reinstate Langat back after successful rehabilitation.

Mututho notes that Langat's alcoholism could have been caused by the loss of his wife to cancer. He added that he was left to look after their child and aging parents.

Reports by Daily Nation indicate that Mututho urged other officers who might be battling alcoholism to speak out before it is too late.

“The government no longer fires officers who suffer addiction.

"They are only required to accept their condition and seek assistance from their medical officers who then refer them to rehabilitation centres which are accredited by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF),” he noted.

Mututho stated that before the government offered the rehabilitation services, most of them would be relieved off their duties.

He called upon such officers to seek help as they could be a threat to security due to their training and experience.

"The government should think of how to help them even as Kenyans of goodwill, like my institution, help the officers,” he stated.
