DCI Nabs 17 Members of Outlawed Mombasa Gang During Meeting

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested 17 suspected members of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) on Tuesday.

DCI officers carried out the raid at Kibanduni area in Kwale county as the suspected MRC members were gathered for a meeting.

Police officers announced that they were able to recover crucial evidence in the form of a register and a ledger book that had a list of monetary contributions

"The suspects were nabbed as they assembled at a house in Kibundani area. Membership registers and contributions were confiscated," the DCI revealed in a tweet.

According to the DCI, the suspects were tagged as aged between 41-84 years and were set to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

The latest arrest follows a similar swoop late in 2018 where more than 40 suspected members of the outlawed gang were arrested in Likoni, Mombasa County.

DCI added that they had also arrested three men suspected of stealing from a Chinese construction site.

The 3 had allegedly stolen from the Chinese Water Tunnel Construction Company at their Mairi site.

According to the DCI, the stolen items were recovered in Nairobi following the arrest of Paul Maina Muniu, Peter Ndua Kilele, and Ezekiel Maina Mwangi.

DCI went on to affirm that the trio would be charged in court on Wednesday as well.
