Raila's Son Reveals Offer Ruto Made Him Before Handshake

Raila Jnr Odinga on Tuesday claimed that Deputy President (DP) William Ruto offered both him and his sister - Winnie Odinga, plum government jobs back in January 2018.

The former Prime Minister's son went on to allege that the DP had tried to influence them using lavish offers in what he termed as a 'divide and rule tactic.'

"The truth is that in January 2018, DP Ruto tried to entice Winnie Odinga and I with high-level government positions, a kind of divide and rule tactic using a very senior Ambassador to pressurize the situation," stated an excerpt from his Twitter page.

A source close to Raila's son, while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, affirmed that it was indeed his actual Twitter account that sent out the stinging response.

He, however, refrained from commenting further about the issue including divulging what the offers were.

Raila Jnr's quick and fiery reactions came a day after DP Ruto's highly publicized Citizen TV interview on Tuesday, during which he questioned Raila Odinga's handshake motives.

Ruto alleged that Mr Odinga approached him four times after the 2017 elections before the opposition leader went ahead to engage President Uhuru Kenyatta in what would culminate in a much-publicized handshake at the steps of Harambee House.

“Before Raila Odinga engaged President Uhuru Kenyatta on the handshake, he engaged me. Raila Odinga approached me on four occasions to have a discussion and I declined to engage him for two reasons,” Ruto disclosed to Citizen TV.

The DP went on to claim that Odinga Snr tried to convince him that he (Ruto) was getting the short end of the deal in the appointment of Cabinet Secretaries.

“I knew that the narrative was about to try and say that I was being shortchanged here and there, which to me is a fake thing,” divulged Ruto.

Raila Jnr, on his part, through his tweet, rubbished the DP's claims adding that it was, in fact, Ruto who went to them with an offer of posh government jobs.
