Doctor Flees Hospital After Causing Patient's Death

A doctor, Mark Anthony Olocho fled from a clinic after he caused the death of a patient in Gem, Siaya County.

It is alleged that Olocho injected 32-year-old Ngesa Odula who collapsed immediately and started convulsing before he died.

Upon realizing that the patient had died, the doctor excused himself from the clinic citing that he was going to get a vehicle to ferry the patient to hospital but he never returned.

Earlier on, Odula had visited another health facility where he was tested and drugs were prescribed to him.

However, the deceased did not find the drugs at the health facility, therefore, decided to look for the drugs at Olocho's clinic.

It is at this point that Olocho convinced him to take the injection as an alternative to the drugs that he had been prescribed to him.

Police have launched a manhunt to probe the case further.

In April 2019, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) removed 2,063 medical practitioners and 212 dental practitioners from its register.

The board took action on the 2,275 doctors because they failed to apply for retention for the year 2019.

KMPDB CEO Daniel Yumbya revealed that registering for the annual retention certificate would single out quack doctors who operate illegally without the required licenses.
