DCI Reveals What Happens to Seized Drugs

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday informed Kenyans on where confiscated items, that are recovered during crackdowns, are taken.

Replying to a curious Kenyan on Twitter, DCI indicated that recovered items are used as exhibits in court and further explained that the court later gives further directions.

"After conclusion of the case, the court gives directions on what to do with the exhibits," the body tweeted.

DCI had taken to Twitter to announce that detectives in Nakuru had nabbed 135 bales of Narcotic drugs.

"135 BALES of Narcotic Drugs (#Bhang) worth millions of shillings were today evening seized by DCI Detectives from Nakuru. 27-Year-Old Hassan Ali, the driver of the lorry, arrested. Further investigations are ongoing. Suspect to be arraigned in court on Tuesday," DCI tweeted.

It is at this point that Derrick Lowmex, inquired where seized drugs by the sleuths are taken after they get confiscated.

"DCI, its good you always tell us when you nab all these drugs but it would make more sense if you tell us where you take them! Or you guys use them?" he questioned.

Earlier this month, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) impounded a petroleum tanker that was transporting bhang to Nairobi.

The illegal drug, which was believed to have originated from Ethiopia, was nabbed along Thika Road and was destined for sale in Kasarani, Githurai, Juja and Nairobi area.
