Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri was reportedly chased out of a meeting in Gatitu, Nyeri on Saturday after rowdy youth stormed the venue.
The CS had gone to the region to launch a water project when the goons stormed the venue and caused chaos.
The chaos forced the CS to make a very hurried speech before leaving the scene.
The irrigation scheme is valued at Ksh261 Million.
Before the launch, which was also attended by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, residents of the area had expressed their dislike for the project and posted some disparaging comments about the meeting.
That negativity forced the police to dispatch heavy security to the venue and by 10am when the CS arrived, tensions were already clearly high.
The CS was on the podium when Wambugu arrived with rowdy boda boda riders who forced the speaker to pause and Kiunjuri to change the line-up of speakers altogether.
It was reported that supporters of Wambugu and those of an MCA, Simon Muturi, clashed at the venue after political brokers spent the previous evening organising hecklers.
In his defence, Wambugu explained that he had not foreseen a clash since the meeting was a development one.
“We may not agree politically but on development matters but we must be on the same page. There could be political noise but that should never interfere with development,” he stated at the function.
